Don't take pot luck (excuse the pun) when you look for plants...
at first glance plants from different nurseries may all look similar in the pot ... but a lot of the time that's where it ends.

We've all been there - buying a beautiful looking plant for that bargain price - only to get it home and planted and find it doesn't retain its appearance.
It is important for you to realise that it is not your lack of gardening ability... simply buy QUALITY plants not bargain plants.
And there is quite a difference!

A new plant is like a baby - if it gets a good start in life it will thrive.
Like newborn babies it all starts back in the nursery. The newly propagated plant relies on regulated and nutrient rich soil to grow. From day one, it has to be nurtured, watered, fed and coaxed into growing into a healthy, well bred little individual. And all the time particular attention needs to be paid to controlling pests and diseases. Finally before it is ready to be released into the big wide world, it may need to be acclimatised if it is going to live under certain conditions.
There are no short cuts - and good nurseries know this.
When a plant does not go through this process more often than not it will not make the transition from pot to garden. That is why bargain plants so often just do not make it.

How do you know when a plant has had a good upbringing?
Always look for the smile on the plants face! Seriously, the only way you can really know is to buy from good retail nurseries and check out details along the way. What are the labels like? Are they mass produced or individually produced to give you details. Is there supporting point of sale material around the plant you are interested in. Are the plants in the group you are looking at consistently healthy.

Does the label display an accreditation logo like this one on the right. This logo is your guarantee that the plant is grown at an accredited Nursery that practices quality procedures.
