Plants - Introduction

At Redland's Nursery we have a wide range of plants choosen especialy for their survivability in Australia's harsh climate.

Our Pictorial List shows a wide variety of Camelias and Azaleas. Our Plant Guide shows all the plants well grow and sell to wholesale trade, each name in the list links to a comprehensive description about that plant.

Everyone likes the sign of the seasons with flowering shrubs and trees our Seasonal Plants section covers information needed for growing these plants.

Acclimatised Plants cover indoor plants especially cultivated by our nursery.

1. Mother Plants:
The production cycle of plants begins with mother plant selection and management. This initial step and subsequent propogation determine how the finished plant will look.

2. Growing Media and Irrigation:
Composted soil less media is the growing medium. Redlands regularly monitors this in conjunction with water and plant tissue analysis to determine correct nutritional requirements. Recycling of irrigation water is practiced.

3. Growing Environments:
These are selected to match the plants growth and habit and to condition the plant so that it will perform and thrive when it leaves the nursery.

4. Nutrition:
This is supplied by base fertilisers in the media and slow release fertiliser. Fertigation is practised as a maintenance program, and for fine tuning nutritional requirements.

5. Plant Protection:
At Redlands Nursery, a preventative approach is adopted with a high emphasis on hygiene in production areas. Chlorination of irrigation water is practiced to eliminate water borne disease pathogens. Crops are monitored for disease and pest presence, and sprayed when necessary. Integrated pest management for two spotted mite is being adapted for use on some crops.

6. Research:
Redlands Nursery continually looks at production techniques to determine if there is a better method. New products and technology are evaluated and only implemented when there is a benefit to the plants
