Now it's possible for your indoor plants to thrive and last longer through a growing process that produces acclimatized plants.
Specially grown acclimatized plants are healthier and sturdier, surviving in low light, low water and low fertiliser situations.
Acclimatized plants from Redlands Nursery are the result of many years research into growing plants specifically for indoor conditions.

Not only do these plants look greener and lusher, they will continue to grow and prosper in your normal greenhouse or indoor situation.

As you can appreciate, plants grown under normal nursery conditions are usually grown as fast as possible to get maximum return. This is done by maximising the use of light, fertiliser and water.

In the process of acclimatizing plants, it is necessary to CHANGE the application of these three critical needs for plant growth to enable them to grow larger shade leaves, and have sturdier roots.

Regulated light
By careful researching of the light needs of different plants, Redlands Nursery have been able to vary shading to get the result needed. Essentially, the acclimatized plant is grown in as dark an environment as possible. This simulates the low light condition it has to withstand inside a home, factory or office.
One word of warning - do not place in sunlight. Leaves will sunburn with the bright light to which they are not accustomed.

Regulated fertilizer
Just the right amount of fertiliser...As well as low light, your acclimatized plant has been grown with a regulated and specially rationed amount of slow release fertiliser. This is given at Redlands Nursery in the very early stages of the plants development and ensures healthy growth for indoor survival.

Once your plant leaves the nursery, it will only need fertilising in very small amounts. A dressing of slow release fertiliser, of half the recommended rate, in October each year will be more than sufficient to maintain health, (in our growing sheds we use a very weak maintaining liquid fertiliser for best results.)

Regulated water
The third key to a healthy indoor plant is watering. It is important to grow the plants with as little water as possible during the growing stages. This critical factor is often overlooked. Once a plant is placed inside in low humidity, you can soon see the effects of over watering - and the way these plants react, compared to ones which have been rationed for water during their growing season.

This induced drier media means that the plant must hunt for its needs. It develops sturdier roots and the leaves develop an ability to transpire at a lower rate. This allows it to be better equipped to withstand the unnatural (for a plant) conditions in most buildings.

Acclimatizing has been researched in many research stations overseas, and the results of plants grown to the needs of indoor conditions are well known. Redlands Nursery is, we believe, the first nursery in Australia to switch most of their facilities wholly over to Acclimatizing foliage.
